Temperatures are changing!

School’s back in full swing, and the days are getting shorter. Like it or not, that means colder temperatures are coming. And that means a whole new minefield for chiropractic care.

Colder temperatures don’t mean just putting on another layer of clothing and going about your day. It affects a multitude of things and how we go about our normal daily routines. From sitting around more to just dealing with the colder temperatures, keeping proper alignment can help set your health up for success by being proactive.

The spring and summer are full of activity. People tend to get out and about more – whether that means a vacation to somewhere new, or just more trips out on the mountain bike. Once the weather turns colder, that means more inactivity. Once the weather starts to turn, almost all of us favor more indoor pursuits. That leads to more inactivity – leading to more sofa time and bingeing on streaming services.

That decrease in activity can lead to a lot of problems. Your body likes being active, so any slowdown can cause problems with your health and alignment. Inactivity causes more stiffness and discomfort, and one of the places it can manifest is in the back. Discomfort in the back can create a nasty cycle, as inactivity can knock you out of alignment and create that pain, which can often lead to more inactivity.

On top of the pain and discomfort colder temps can bring, the chilly weather can sometimes make pain worse. By getting adjusted to ensure proper spinal alignment, it can help boost your flexibility to help keep the pain away or make it far more manageable. It’s all about comfort, and staying in front of things like chronic pain can go a long way in not only fighting off the adverse effects of inactivity, but also keep chronic pain at bay through the times it feels the worst.

Along with the benefits of pain relief, chiropractic care can also help prevent some of the bugs going around in the winter, like the flu and the common cold. Because the spine is the star of your nervous system, it can help boost your immune system. This helps battle things like viruses. Regular adjustments help bolster your nervous system, which means your immune system is getting a boost, too.

Of course, there are plenty of activities to do in the winter in Colorado. Just like any athlete, snowboarders and skiers need to give themselves the best opportunity for injury prevention. If the winter is the time of year where you’re the most active, then proper spinal alignment is also vital. Injuries aren’t uncommon on the slopes, and proper alignment can help your body defend itself against some of those common, avoidable injuries.
